VéloColour turns 7 this year, it’s the first anniversary in our new space and it’s coming along nicely. Carl&Rose is on a roll, we have lots of new projects coming together and our showroom is nearing completion. It’s spring, there’s a barbeque, we want to see you and really do we need a reason to have a party? We think not.
Our doors are going to be open from three o’clock on. We’ll have some snacks, beverages and plenty to see. Come check out the space and say hi. Your little ones are welcome too.
If night time is more your style than come by a bit later. We’ll have something good cooking out front on the barbeque and a few beverages but feel free to bring something if you like. And hey bring along a friend or two as well.
We’re on Weston Rd. but set back from the street (everyone gets lost the first time). There is parking space for cars and limitless bicycle lock-ups
Bicycles or Driving: Keele turns into Weston Rd after St Clair. So cross over St.Clair and then turn right at the first drive way after ABC lumber, just past Gunns Rd. Then just follow the signs. We are the auto garage furthest north.
Transit: Take the Weston rd bus from Keele station it’s only about 6 minutes and get off at Gunns Rd. Again follow the balloons or turn right at the first drive way after ABC lumber, just past Gunns Rd. From there we should be hard to miss. We are the auto garage furthest north.
Saturday June 7th 3:00-11:00pm
and Sunday June 8th 12-5pm
Place: Velocolour 191 Weston Rd.
Hi there, thanks for stopping in. For those of you that don’t know Carl&Rose is a new business venture between my partner Noah and I and we are super excited about it.
A few people have mentioned that Carl&Rose sounds a little old-timey. Perhaps they are an old couple who can be found resting in their rockers on a warm summer day or just out for a very slow stroll. This is far from the truth and tells little of our youthful energy. The name is actually a mash-up, my last name is Carlsen and Noah’s is Rosen. Given the same endings of our names a true mash-up of our family names isn’t possible so we decided to do the next best thing. We dropped the ‘sen’ and there you go, I became Carl and Noah is Rose. We also loved the idea that me, a lady, being Carl and Noah, a man, being Rose is pretty great, don’t you agree? Coming soon, name tags for the both of us.
We do hope the twitter name carlandrose has been taken by a lovely older couple tweeting of their own rocking chair adventures.
A little more about us. For the past 5 years I have been doing a lot of different things like running Poka Bicycle Accessories, showing jewellery under my own name, curating exhibitions and working on various collaborative projects with Noah. Noah was and continues to run his own business, Velocolour Bicycle Painting and so with all of my ventures we realized there were way to many parts to what we were doing separately and together . We decided to merge the rest into one massive two-person design conglomerate. It brings together objects for the home that we have been working on together for the past few years, cycling accessories from Poka and my jewellery production lines that Noah was already a part of. Of course I am still making ‘art’ jewellery under my own name.
I know lots of people say (like Steamwhistle, a local Toronto brewery) do one thing really really well. I guess for both Noah and I that has never been something we were interested in. Throughout the past decade or two we have both experimented with tons of different materials and made lots and lots of stuff. Noah has done everything from ceramics, sculpture and metal work to custom contracting and I have worked in the event world, gallery installation and floral design along with making jewellery and curating exhibitions. With our collective skills, knowledge and experience we bring you Carl&Rose a company that wants to make a lot of things really well. Our products and projects will span many disciplines, mediums and demographics but they will all have a common thread. We make stuff for us and hope you are as excited about it as we are.
Carl&Rose is -Colour, Quality and Canadian Made.
Enjoy! We look forward to hearing from each and everyone of you in the next few weeks, months or years. Feel free to get in touch with any questions or comments.
– Suzanne and Noah.
